Sunil Gavaskar blasted by ex-Australia captain over Yashasvi Jaiswal MCG dismissal verdict

Former Australia captain Mark Taylor has hit out at Sunil Gavaskar and former India cricketers who criticized the third umpire’s decision to dismiss Yashasvi Jaiswal on day five of the Melbourne Test.

Jaiswal was controversially given out by the third umpire despite nothing being shown to Snicko. But the ball had changed course after passing the bat and seemed to go out to the naked eye. Gavaskar was stern with the third umpire and criticized him for not using technology properly.

The legendary India opener termed the change in the ball’s path as an “optical illusion” and claimed third umpire Sharfuddoula should have used the technology in a better way. He even called on the third umpire not to use technology if he has to make decisions that way.

Mark Taylor on the sacking of Yashasvi Jaiswal

While speaking on Nine’s Today, Mark Taylor hit back at Sunil Gavaskar’s criticism and stated that technology like Snicko might not deter the lead at times as he is not 100 per cent.

“Things like Snicko, and all the technology, it’s not 100 percent, and everybody knows that. Especially Snicko when you have a stump mic, which is at the base of the stumps, and you have a beater that makes edges. ball about two meters away over his head … you may or may not hear it through the stump mic,” Taylor explained.

In this case, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s nick may not have been caught by Snicko as the ball was over his shoulders. The Snicko showed no perturbation that started all the confusion.

Mark Taylor criticizes Sunil Gavaskar and other Indian pundits

Mark Taylor also denied claiming any controversy on this issue stating that Yashasvi Jaiswal had clearly marked the ball. He criticized Sunil Gavaskar and the other pundits for trying to create controversy out of nothing.

“To me, there is no controversy. You can see from that replay that he clearly marks the ball, and there is a clear deviation. There is no controversy here. People who find controversy, seek controversy. Australia took Genuine 10. Wickets yesterday and fully deserved the win,” he said.

Along with Sunil Gavaskar, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla also criticized the umpire’s decision to dismiss Jaiswal.

What was the controversy with the port of Yashasvi Jaiswal?

During India’s 71st innings on the 5th, Yashasvi Jaiswal tried to scoop a short ball from Pat Cummins down the leg side but missed the ball. Carey took the catch cleanly behind the stumps and the Aussie fielders let out a big catch.

The field umpire initially didn’t give it. The third umpire checked from various angles and there was a clear deflection as the ball passed the bat. However, the Snicko showed nothing.

But the third umpire gave it after looking at it from different camera angles. It sparked a controversy and even Jaiswal argued with the umpires about the decision before walking back to the pavilion.
