Sudanese landslide kills at least 1000 people, says Rebel Group

The landslide in Western Sudan killed at least 1000 people in the mountains, according to the armed liberation group/Sudan Army.

Heavy rain days caused a landslide on Sunday, which left only one survivor and aligned most of the village of Tarasin, the group said.

The movement appealed to the Humanitarian Assistance to the United Nations and other regional and international organizations.

Many Northern Darfur residents sought asylum in the Harry Marra region, after the war between the Sudanese army and the rapid support forces (RSF) forced them from home.

The governor erected in the army of Darfur, Mininov called the landslide “humanitarian tragedy”.

“We appeal to international humanitarian organizations to urgently intervene and provide support and assistance at this critical moment, because the tragedy exceeds what our people can make alone,” he said in a statement quoted by AFP.

The pictures show two ravines on the side of the mountain, which converges at the lower level where the village of Tarasin was located.

The civil war, which began in April 2023 between the Sudan Army and the RSF, plunged into the country and led to the accusations of genocide in the western region of Darfur.

According to the estimated civil war, they are significantly different, but last year, the American official estimated that up to 150,000 people have been killed since the war began in 2023. About 12 million fled home.

The fractions of the Movement for Liberation/Sudan Army, which controls the area where the landslide took place, pledged to fight the Sudanese military against the RSF.

Many Darfura believe that RSF and the Union militias are waging a war aimed at turning an ethnically mixed region into the Arab region.
