As well as saying “in your own time” instead of “action,” said Dench, Eastwood would say “stop” instead of “breaking.” It’s a small thing, but it’s obvious to a working actor. He also noted that Eastwood’s “shooting and moving forward” method was also slightly shocking. He would film a scene, and Dench would prepare for a re -taken. “And then you would say, okay, and get ready to do it again,” he said. “No, no, no, you didn’t yet, you only got one.” There is a reason why Eastwood is known for bringing its films in time and under budget. “(He) is not a mess around,” he said. “You start at nine, and you finish at 4:30. It’s heaven!”
She even remembered shooting a lifting scene with Leonardo DiCaprio, and it was scary to hear that Eastwood had shot the pictures he needed while she didn’t even pay attention. In her words:
“DiCaprio and I made a scene where I was in bed with some papers and things in front of me, no dialogue or nothing … so he has sat here, and we were talking to everything, talking about things every day. Then I said, ‘Are we going to do this scene?’ And Leo said, ‘It’s done!’ That’s it, he had done it, while we were sitting there. ‘
After hearing so many stories about how some directors are perfectionists or Prima Donnas who need everything to be exactly up to the point of torture, it can be refreshing to hear stories of a director who makes everything quick, safe, quiet and casual. Dench clearly liked his method, happy to clock out after a seven and a half hour shift.
“J. Edgar” is not a standout movie In Eastwood filmography, he did not stop mourning. In fact, a few years later, in 2014, the musical “Jersey Boys” and his remarkable American sniper “made a striking” striking “just as when he makes a movie, Eastwood shot the thing simply and moved on.
