Steven Van Zandt loses several concert dates with Bruce Springsteen and E street band after having to undergo emergency surgery for appendicitis.
“Had sudden pain in my stomach, thinking it was food poisoning, evicted to be appendicitis,” the Sopranos aum74, wrote through Instagram On Monday, June 23.
Van Zandt seems to have become ill after Saturday of the band, June 21, a show in San Sebastián, Spain, and received treatment there. The playgroup is expected again in the city on Tuesday, June 24.
“Lucky with an exceptional hospital in San Sebastian,” wrote Van Zandt on Monday. “The operation was a complete success and I hope to get back on stage for at least one of the shows in Milan. Thank you all for all the good vibrations. We’ll see you soon.”

Taylor Hill/WirimageFollowing the second date of E street in Spain, the group is about to go to Germany for a concert on Friday, June 27, before stopping in Milan, Italy, Monday, June 30, and Thursday, July 3.
Van Zandt has been a guitarist in the Springsteen band away and on since 1975. His latest tenure began in 1999.
“You don’t have so many friends for 60 years. I think the fact that he survived some progress, he says something about our nature,” Van Zandt told People last year. “The nature of the importance of friendship in general, and that is what attracted me to be in a band rather than a single show business person.”
He went on to note that he does not take his friendship with Springsteen, 75, “for granted” after all these years. “Fifty years later, how do we still play for 300,000 people in one country in one week?” He told the outlet. “I think we convey that friendship, which is real with me and him. When they see us on the same microphone, that’s not an act. No one is as good as the actor to keep this act up for 50 years.”
Springsteen proved to scare himself in 2023, postpone series From journey dates after he was diagnosed with peptic ulcer disease. Last year revealed that the illness meant could not sing for several months.
“You sing with your diaphragm. You know, my diaphragm hurt so badly until I went to make the effort to sing, it killed me, so literally I couldn’t sing at all, you know?” He said during the March 2024 interview on Radio E Street Siriusxm. “And that lasted for two, three months, along with just a myriad of other painful problems.”
He added, “It took a while for the doctors to say, ‘Oh, no, you’re going to be fine.’ At first, no one said that, did you nervously, do you know?
Since then Springsteen has improved and returned to travel in March 2024.
