Sydney Sixers cricketer Steve Smith continued his impressive streak of saving boundaries with a remarkable effort during the BBL 2024-25 match against Sydney Thunder. Steve Smith made an acrobatic save near the boundary line at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney on Friday 17 January.
Steve Smith leads the Sydney Sixers into a crucial Sydney Smash clash against Sydney Thunder, led by veteran opener. David Warner. This match could shake up the top three of the 2024-25 BBL. However, the match was delayed due to heavy rain after just five overs at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
The Sydney Sixers won the bat flip and elected to field, with Warner and new Australian Test star Sam Konstas opening for the Thunder. Jack Edwards started with a maiden but Warner quickly hit a boundary before rain interrupted play after 1.4 overs.
The match resumed under revised conditions, with 19 overs per side. Konstas managed to score 9 off 14 balls, including two fours, before being dismissed by Edwards.
The incident occurred on the first ball of the 5th, when David Warner tried to stump bowler Todd Murphy. Warner came out and flicked the ball towards long on. Steve Smith produced an impressive effort to save a six.
Smith threw the ball back downfield before going out and back to complete the catch. With no one around to help, the former Australian captain saved four runs for his team with his remarkable fielding effort.
The Big Bash League’s official social media account X (formerly known as Twitter) shared the clip of Smith’s fielding effort with the caption: “This is elite @stevesmith49 👏. What a way to ‘save six! #BBL14”
