Even if you don’t love Star Trek: TravelIt’s hard not to smile while watching “The 37’s,” the show’s season 2 premiere chapter. This was a chapter that included everything from Voyager Landing on a planet to Captain Janeway rubbing elbows with Amelia Earhart, making it one of the franchise’s most memorable adventures. It was an adventure that changed completely, though, as this was originally due to be the end of season 1, and one large producer fought this standalone story into a two -part chapter.
The idea that Star Trek: TravelPremière Season 2 nearly its end of season 1 almost seemed strange until you considered that the first season of this spinoff had only 16 episodes. This was because Voyage It was broadcast on UPN and deliberately maintained network executives some chapters back so that the second term of the show could show for the first time two or three weeks earlier than most other shows. As a result, “the 37s” ended the second season when it was due to end a season 1 (which ended up replacing “Learning Curve,” a lame episode for Tuvok’s training dissatisfied before Maquis.
While this Voyage He actually made the episode for the memorable premiere of Season 2, it is easy to see how it was originally written to be the end of a season. In addition, Janeway’s meeting in Amelia Earhart was a big deal, and all the idea of the crew ran into 20th -century human beings equivalent to the tone of the Tng Season 1 finale “the neutral zone.”
The network’s decision to make the “37s” of the Season 2 premiere instead of the end of season 1 made an annoying Jeri Taylor and Brannon Braga, two Voyager producers. Taylor noted how this episode “worked better as a season than as an opener” and that her conspiracy for the crew would band together, reaffirm their joint commitment, and go home “has been a nice way to end the first season.” Meanwhile, Braga was disappointed that the show could not end a season 1 with the “very high acting adventure episode,” but was happy that the Voyage Chapter made for such explosive season 2 première.
Braga was less happy for the fact that this was not a two -part chapter. He later said he was the only one on the show that wanted “the 37s” to be two parts but no one else wanted to end a season 1 on a cliff. In terms of Braga, he believed that there was enough crunchy narrative material in this ambitious episode that would have deserved a second hour of storytelling.
One time, “the 37s” were almost very different: not only had almost two parts, but was originally designed as the end of season 1. However, we cannot help but prefer this Voyage A chapter as a premiere season 2… Sure, “Learning Curve” was a lame S1 end, but “the ’37s” helped to prove how well this show could be when it fired on each cylinder. And, frankly, nothing Gets us to keep around for a new season of show more than this kind of murderer premiere.
