Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez urged Israel to exclude international sports competitions for his actions.

“Israel cannot continue to use any international platform to whiten its image,” he said to his chosen representatives of his socialist workers.

He said that Israel should be considered the same as Russia because of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

On Sunday, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar called the Spanish Prime Minister “shame” and accused him of the Palestinian protests in Madrid, which caused the cancellation of the final stage of Vuelta’s cycling race, in which the Israeli team competed.

Earlier on that day, Sanchez stated that preliminary protests showed that Spain was “shining as an example of pride” on Gaza.

Public broadcasters of Ireland and the Netherlands have already stated that they would not participate if Israel will be included in the competition with “horrible” and “serious” loss of life and suffering in gas.

The relationship between Israel and Spain has been fragile since the end of 2023, when Sanchez expressed concern about the death of civilian population in gas and some members of his government at the time called for diplomatic relations.
