The former Cricket Control Consultation in India (BCCI), President Sourav Gangul, has opened the controversy over the kohli output of Indian captaincy. Gangul also revealed that Rohit Sharma did not want to take the lead of leadership, adding that he had to convince him to the captain.
Wanted Kohli abandoned Team India Captain T20i ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2021. After the event, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly appointed Rohit Sharma as Hate Captain. Kohli also resigned as a test captain after India lost a series of tests against South -Africa in 2022.
Sourav Gangul said that the BCCI always wanted Kohli to continue as captain in white ball formats. Ganguly added that after Kohli’s decision to leave T20i captaincy, Rohit Sharma was designated to lead the two formats.
Your daily dose of cricket!
“It is quite natural that you have a captain for the white ball. We always wanted to be a captain, but it did not want to continue, and here it was. And then, obviously, Rohit came in,” said Gangul.
“He was captain to the Mumbai Indians (MI). We needed a test captain because he was a test captain until then, and ended south -Africa,” he added.
Rohit Sharma’s legacy would not have been the same if he had not convinced him to run in all three formats. Forever grateful to Sourav Gangul. 🙌

Sourav Ganguly revealed that Rohit Sharma was initially hesitating to take test captaincy due to workload problems. Gangul said he convinced Rohit to direct India on the test cricket. The old cricket added that Rohit agreed on the paper after taking a few days to consider it.
“I always believed that Rohit was a very good captain. The Council’s application went to him to the captain in trial matches. He was initially reluctant due to his workload. But I remember he had a conversation with him, saying:” You do not want to finish your career without capturing India in test matches, “Ganguly said.
“It took a couple of days and then agreed. He is a very adjustable and kind person. If you have conversations with him, he will listen, accept and do things. And honestly, why no one would like to be the Indian test captain?”
Rohit Sharma started his international Cricket trip on June 23, 2007. He has become one of the most reliable players in India. Sharma has played 273 hatred, scoring 11,168 runs to an average of 48.76, including 32 centuries and 58 years. He has also represented India in 67 tests and 159 T20IS.
Rohit brought India to the finals of the World Test Championship and the 2023 Hate World Cup, but suffered defeats in Australia on both times.
However, veteran Cricleter ended the Indian ICC trophy drought guiding the team to victories in the T20 World Cup of 2024 in the West Indies and the USA, followed by a triumph in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
