“She had hope … I’ve lost a lot of people to bondage sadly,” said Herlihy in Interview with TMZ On Friday, April 25. “Sophie’s ia lost many friends to this disease over the past few years. We knew his severity.”
Herlihy explained that she and Nyweide had met at a residential treatment center called Elevations in Utah. Elevations focus on helping children from 13 to 18 years of age as they struggle with anxiety, depression, bullying and other issues.
As they knew each other for some time, Herlihy shared that she and Nydeide were at each other’s sides as they fought against their own addiction. Herlihy claimed she was around when Nyweide “used” drugs and noted that they would also use them together.
While Herlihy and Nyweide had experienced loss because of addiction, she never thought that the former child’s star would meet the same fate.
“No one ever is the right person to go. No one is supposed to go from this disease, in my opinion at least. But I never thought it would be because we fought so hard to survive the stuff we’ve gone through in our lives,” he said. “She was the last person I expected to die from this disease because she was so strong.”
When Herlihy first met Nyweide, he immediately noticed how warm and welcoming it was to others.
“She didn’t judge anyone, she wasn’t like the regular women of our age group who (in) judged each other,” Herlihy remembered. “She was kind off the bat. (She didn’t) talk badly about anyone. She wanted everyone to feel safe and cared for.”
The Nyweide family on Tuesday, April 22, confirmed that the The former child actress died. She was 24 years old.
“Sophie. Life ended too soon,” read the Memorial. “Unless it is in vain. May we all learn from her short life on earth and do better. Yes, we must all protect our children and do better.”
Officials in Bennnington, Vermont, confirmed that the body of Nyweide was found on April 14 in a wooded area along the River Roaring River. An anonymous person was with the former child actress at the time of her death and calling the emergency services. The person cooperates with researchers.
Law enforcement noted that they Investigate Nyweide’s death as a “unintentional overdose possible.”
