Indian women’s national cricket team batsman Smriti Mandhana achieved a feat in ODI history for the national team. The opening batsman became only the second Indian team player to cross 4000 runs in the history of 50 over cricket.
Mandhana achieved the feat during the ongoing first match of the ODI series against the Ireland women’s national cricket team. The opening match of the three-match series between the teams takes place at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.

Chasing 239 runs, Mandhana came out all guns blazing and ensured that she gave her team a vital start. The opening batsman looked in great touch and ensured that she led from the front and put pressure on the opposition from the start.
Mandhana, during her innings, crossed the 4000-run mark and became only the second Indian woman cricketer after Mithali Raj to achieve the remarkable milestone. Overall, she became the 15th player in the history of women’s cricket to surpass the milestone.

Mandhana, who has gone through the purple patch in ODIs, played an innings of 41 runs off 29 balls. The opening batsman batted at a strike rate of over 141 and also hit 6 fours and 1 six in his innings, taking his team to a flying start.
Mandhana has been named the captain of the team in the ongoing series against the Ireland Women’s National Cricket Team. This is because regular skipper Harmanpeeet Kaur has been given rest for the series and Smriti, as the vice-captain, has been given the role.
Mandhana played a vital role for her team and would be keen to sustain her confidence in the next two matches. Along the way, the Indian Women’s National Cricket came close to the chase; they looked set to win the match and take a 1-0 lead.
The Indian women’s national cricket team had a decent outing with the ball in the ongoing match. They restricted the opposition to just 238 runs. In the chase, apart from Smriti, Mandhana, Pratika Rawal has hit a vital half-century and looks strong to take her team home.
