When Sleigh Bells released their debut album, DelicacyIn 2010, even their most zealous fans might have had a hard time imagining a future beyond drenched riffs of a distortion of “infinity guitars.” The band was a moment, for sure, but in a world of common attention, no wave ever lasts too long.
Sled bells, however, are still going strong, after staying true to their roots to break headset for 17 years now when avoiding the interpersonal drama That has plagued a lot of band before them. On their sixth album, Becky’s Book -Boy Cells. Alexis Krauss and Derek Miller sounds better than ever – like sled bells of DelicacyBut with a hard assistant helps friendship and experience.
“There’s a way to hold someone accountable through fault and guilt and shame, and I really don’t think that exists in Derek and my relationship,” said Krauss Weekly US Before releasing the album Friday, April 4.
Miller agreed, adding, “Any friendship or solid relationship in whatever joint or circumstance, if it lasts long enough, S *** is going to happen. S *** goes down, and that will prove your friendship.… The best friendship lasts. Your people are there for each other.”
In 2008, Miller renowned Krauss to sing for her new project after meeting her at a restaurant where she was staying on her and her mother. He listened to his demonstrations and soon agreed to be his vocalist, and Sleigh Bells was born. A chance encounter rarely leads to a band with this kind of longevity, a fact that even Miller and Krauss wonder.
“It’s just surreal, in fact, when people say that number – 17 years. It certainly doesn’t feel that way,” said Krauss. “We do not force ourselves to make albums, no one tells us that we have to do it. We do because we are really inspired by each other. I feel that we both live more or less in the present, and it is still happening.
On the surface, Becky’s Book -Boy Cells Perhaps sounding like a typical sled bells record-about amps up to 11, floor shaking beats, noisy guitars-it’s really emotion. The title is a homage to the recent dog of Krauss, Riz, and his nickname were Bunky Becky, and her son, Wilder, and the birthday boy. The songs follow the feats of two characters, Bunky Becky and Roxette Ric, broadly equivalent to Krauss and Miller, respectively.
“Ultimately, it’s a kind of sappy and sentimental record. It tries not to be, and I’m not necessarily proud of that,” Miller explained with laughter. “Cynicism is a cooler and liquidation is a road cooler, but that’s not who really is.”
It highlights the closer album “Pulse quietly dripping” as an example of what it means. It’s not a ballad, exactly, but he has casual fans of emotional maturity that he could surprise find Sleigh Bells. (The chorus contains the words, “It’s safe to catch your wind / You can rely on that / I’ll be true to death.”)

Sled bells“This is the smallest playful song and is the clearest eyes and, for a lack of a better, serious word,” said Miller Us. “It’s like a moment when you may hang with your best friend and bad ones happen. They may be walking out of a restaurant, being hit by a car and you are sitting there making a tournament with your shirt, waiting for the ambulance to arrive, looking at them like, ‘I’m going to be here for you. I got you. I got through this.'”
This is not to say that past playback is still not present in shovels on the album. First single “Want to start a band?” He has the magic of classic stompers sled bells like “Crown on the Land,” while “this summer” is an exuberant ode to the warmest season (with a touch of the apocalypse to a good measure). Krauss is particularly excited to show “Wanna Start and Band?” Together, because it sounds like “everything I want to bells to be.”
The fans of the old records do not need to worry, however, as the duo intends to include enough Delicacy Tracks on the set list for their upcoming journey. Sleigh Bells will be celebrating the album’s 15th anniversary on May 24, a few weeks after they hit the way to support Becky’s Book -Boy Cells.
“I think there is a point in the band’s career where it was like you’re kind of trying to move away from that, and now it’s just, ‘I love that album,'” said Krauss. “I love how that album feels alive and to be able to play so many songs of so many records and also just really, fully embrace full Delicacy and the way those songs connect with people. It is a big part of the heart and soul of this journey. “
Now, those links are made with a new generation, as fans of early sled bells Bring their own children With them for shows – and the band loves to see it.
“He has built this amazing fan base, to talk to people who have gone into delicacies and who are still listening, or to people who have been like, ‘Oh, yes, I play Delicacy for my child right now, and they are coming to a show, ‘”Krauss said Us. “You get this kind of magic that can only happen over time.”
