Six people were killed after a tourist submarine sank in the Red Sea of Egypt.
Local officials say 39 others were saved after the ship sank around 10:00 local time. Confirmed messages suggested that the vessel hit the reef and lost pressure.
Two married doctors – among those who died and their daughters remain in the hospital, the authorities said. The Russian official stated that the two who died were children, TAS reports, a state agency owned by Russia.
This is the second incident involving a tourist vessel in the Red Sea in recent months. In November, the boat overturned near Mars Alaga, who left missing 11 people, is expected to be dead.
Red Sea Governor Amr Hanafi said Sinbad passengers were from Russia, India, Norway and Sweden. There were also five members of the Egyptian crew on board.
Mr. Hanafi said that the six who died were all Russian, but complete information about the victims has not yet been published.
The investigation of the incident is continuing, but the Russian tour operators association is cited in a telegram that has not confirmed that the submarine was in the reef and subsequently lost the pressure while at a depth of 20 meters (65 feet).
The city of Hergad is located in the southeast Cairo, a tourist place that is known for both beaches and coral reefs.
Dr. James Oldridge from Bristol made the same trip to the submarine in February 2025. He said the BBC: “Sub was well -groomed and was as shown in advertising photos.
“Fresh paint, modern equipment and careful and professional English staff (including two divers that accompany you).”
He explained that the passengers listened to a security briefing, which was recorded in several languages and said that rescue vests were not issued.
“We toured the reef for 40 minutes. The first 20 I collided with the reef.
