In the latest episode of Sister Wives, Mary Brown shed light on the breakdown in her family’s funds – which she claimed was not always fair.
“His whole big thing then was that I would get two acres. Two acres,” said Meri, 53, to her friend Jane during the Sunday, January 19, episode of the TLC series, claiming that ex-husband Kody Brown never intended to give her an equal share of their Coyote Pass family property. “He’s like, ‘Well, you don’t need as many because you don’t have as many kids.'”
Jen pointed out that Meri has “paid equally” to the plot of land, which is in Flagstaff, Arizona, despite the fact that she only shares one child, Leonwith Kody, 55 .
“I don’t know if they don’t remember, like, when all our funds were together and those family funds that I helped with went to the children’s college, to property,” explained Meri. “He went to everything. We had a family fund.”
Jen quickly Meri reminded not only did she put money into the family bank when she was married to Kody, but that money “paid out most of the kids’ colleges, but not Leon’s.”
Jen claimed that the family fund “went to most of the kids’ cars, but not Leon’s,” which Meri confirmed. “I paid for Leon’s college,” Meri said, adding that she paid for her child’s “car payments” too – and didn’t use the family slush.
Meri admitted: “I really don’t know how much of the family fund paid for other children’s school or cars, but I know that my child’s school was not taken care of from the family fund.”
Despite being married to Kody the longest, Meri claimed she never got an equal share of the money her sister wives took out for their multiple family.
“Kody has actually said this: ‘Since I only have one child, I’m not entitled to an equal share of the property,'” Meri claimed, again referring to the sale of their community land.
Meri and Kody were legally married from 1990 to 2014. They divorced so Kody could marry a fourth wife Robyn Brown and legally adopts her three children from a previous relationship. Meri and Kody remained in spiritual union until she confirm their separation in January 2023.
Along with Leon, Kody welcomed six children together Janelle Brown a Christine Brown before their marriage broke up. (Janelle announced her split in December 2022, while Christine left the extended family in 2021.)
Kody is still married to Robyn, 46, and shares three adopted children and two biological children with them.
“We had 18 children to look after. You know, that’s just water under the bridge,” Kody told the cameras during Sunday’s episode while discussing the division of assets. “I don’t even want to discuss it. Meri can complain all she wants about whatever happened.”
While Kody tried to ignore Meri’s claims, he remained adamant that she deserves to get some money from their Coyote Pass property — as does Janelle. (Christine he gave her part of the land to Robyn and Kody after her divorce and she kept the money from selling her home in Arizona.)
“I put a lot into this marriage emotionally, financially (and) personally. I didn’t get anything out of it as far as, like, alimony or whatever. And I’m not looking for that,” concluded Meri. “So I think it’s fair (I get) the investment in property. I think it’s only fair that I walk away with that at least.”
Elsewhere in the episode, Kody met with a realtor to list Coyote Pass but didn’t keep Janelle or Meri in the loop. In the meantime, the women retained attorneys to try protect their rights to the land.
Sister Wives airs on TLC Sundays at 10 pm ET.
