Shubman Gill has appeared as the highest contestant to lead India’s national team in the test cricket after the removal of Rohit Sharma format, with his appointment completed before the tour of England, from June 20.
Sources revealed that Shubman Gill is not only in the radar, but has already been treated as the new Indian test captain. According to a report by Times of India, Indian title coach Gautam Gambhir had invited Gill to his Delhi residence for lunch and discussed four to five hours.
The closed doors’ conversation of Gautam Gambhir and Shubman Gill amid the Buzz test captaincy has caused intense talk on social media, and the privileged ones called him “discussion about the captaincy model.” Gill’s meeting with Gamchir in Delhi has also been confirmed by PTI.

The report suggests that Gill is now virtually confirmed as the next Indian test captain, with all the highest BCCI officials on board the decision. The PTI report said, “With the new captain waiting for a meeting to be widespread with the main coach in the national capital, there is little chance for selectors or Gamhir to retire from their original position.”
The report added: “There were rumors that influential people who run Indian Cricket are not exactly satisfied with Gill’s sudden elevation, but it would be completely foolish to believe that those powerful men did not pay attention to the confidence before the Punjab batter was zero as the next test leader.”
To add more fuel to the fire, India coach Ajit Agarkar also met with Gill on May 6. Ajit Agarkar and India’s hatred Vice-Captain met immediately after an IPL 2025 match between Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai early this month.
Gill high -profile meetings with Agarkar and Gambhir suggest that the format ad that the new Indian test captain is around the corner.
In the meantime, senior players such as Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul and Rishab Pant are also in contact with the test captaincy, but national selectors are supporting Young Gill for Captaincy. He will be appointed captain when BCCI announces the tests for the England tour.

The rise of Gill ahead of the elderly such as Jasprit Bumrah, Ris Hurbh Pant and Ravindra Jadja have surprised many, but the BCCI and the selectors are looking at Captain GT as a long -term captaincy bet. They believe that their calm mentality and potential for leadership make him the ideal man for the future.
Toi said that a BCCI source said: “Gill has shown impressive leadership qualities in the way he has directed GT, which is currently at the head of the table this season. With a new WTC cycle from the England tour, the Council is looking forward to building a team around it.”
Above all, the Indian test workforce is likely to be announced at the end of May, and the first group of players is expected to leave England in the first week of June for the five -game test series.
