The Indian test pattern, Shubman Gill, has been designated as Vice-Capità T20i for the Asia Cup, replacing Axar Patel from the previous series, while the decision introduces new controversies, reports have not been a simple decision since Ajit Agarkar had other preferences.
Great Great Gill Gill last played a T20i series for India in July against Sri Lanka. Since then, India has played three T20I series against Bangladesh, South Africa and England, but Gill has not been part of any of the aforementioned series.
Gill, who was asked to focus on the remaining two formats of the game, was appointed Indian test pattern after Rohit Sharma announced his retirement. Since his appointment, Gill has dominated the Indian cricket and is now ranked among the main contestants for a future role as a pattern of all format.

After the Indian team was selected and Ajit Agarkar, next to the pattern Suryakumar Yadav, attended the press conference to announce the Asia Cup squad, the name he took first was Shubman Gill.
When Agarkar appointed Shubman’s return to India T20i, he also claimed that he has been appointed vice-chic for the side. After him, the remaining 14 members of the team were announced, including pattern Suryakumar Yadav.
Both the pattern and the selector made it clear that Shubman Gill, despite not playing a T20I game for more than a year, was always a member of the T20I side and was the initial election of the vice-chicer announced after the triumph of the T20 World Cup.
According to the reports claimed by Indian Express, the appointment of Shubman Gill as Indian Vice-Capitan was a well-considered decision by India.
It has been revealed that the Indian selections box weighed options such as All-Rounder Axar Patel as vice-chic. He was appointed Vice-Capitan of India in the T20 series of England due to the unavailability of Shubman Gill for the series.
However, they also tilted to Gill, citing a player who could be a key figure in the future leadership structure of India. The main coach Gautam Gambhir, who virtually joined them, also accepted Gill’s appointment, as a younger player could be better.
Ajit Agarkar revealed that Gill was always part of the Indian leadership plans, as a young pattern could be fed to be a world -class leader someday.
“He was the Vice-Capitan when we played in Sri Lanka. But after that he was busy with the test cricket,” said Agarkar. “Obviously we see some leadership qualities in him, and his form in England was what we expected. He exceeded all our expectations, which is a great sign when there is as much pressure as the captain.”
Suryakumar Yadav, the current pattern of the Indian T20i side, also supported the decision to appoint Shubman Gill as a Member of the Continental Championship.
“Gill always was part of the Indian T20 side of first choice,” said Suryakumar. “He missed other commitments and injuries, but the leadership group has always believed in his potential.”
