Former Australian Captain Ricky Ponting has opened on who should replace Kohli in the crucial position number 4 in the next series of England Tests. Ponting supported the newly appointed Shubman Gill pattern to beat at number 4 in tests after Kohli’s retirement before the five -game test series.
India will be held in England in the next series of tests, from June 20 in Leeds. With veterans Rohit Sharma, whipped Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin who retired from the format, the workforce will have several fresh faces. Shubman Gill will direct the side, with Ris Habh Pant called Vice-Capitan.
Speaking ICC’s reviewRicky Ponting said that Sai Sudarshan and Yasasvi Jaiswal are likely to open in India in England. With two young openings, India could prefer a more experienced Batsman at number 3 in the order.

“I think (SAI) Sudarshan I (Yasasvi) Jaiswal will open the battle (in England), as Sudarshan only looks like a class player and, technically, I think he could do -well at a test level,” said Ponting.
“They will have two very young openings, so they could look for someone who has a little more experience at number 3,” said Ponting.
There is still no uncertainty about the place where Shubman Gill is in the program. He has played as a workshop or at number 3 in his 32 test games so far. However, Ponting said that Shubman Gill’s transfer to number 4 could alleviate the pressure to deal with the new ball.
“Whether it is KL (Rahul) or Karun (Nair) at number 3, and Shubman could end up being that player number 4, which will probably make life a little easier as Captain,” Ponting continued.
“Do not have to open up or beat at number 3 as a young captain can make it easier. The first five places will probably be Sudarshan, Jaiswal, KL, Gill and Karun Nair for the start of the England series.”
Shubman Gill still does not have to beat at number 4 of Test Cricket during the last two cycles of the World Test Championship. Gill has captured India only once, in a five -game T20i series against Zimbabwe last year. He recently directed the Titans of Gujarat (GT) to a third place in the IPL 2025.
Sai Sudharsan had a prominent season IPL 2025, winning the orange cap. The left baptism scored 759 runs in 15 games with an impressive average of 54.21 and a strike rate of 156.17, including a century and six half a century.
Sudharsan has shown a promise in the longest format with 1,957 runs in 29 first class games to an average of 39.93. He is one of the three players without any selected for the next series of five India tests against England.
While Gujarat de Sudharsan Titans worked well at IPL 2025, their campaign ended up on the eliminator with a loss for the Mumbai (MI) Indians.
