Ricky Ponting emphasized how the Indian pattern took away “certain modes of dismissal out of the equation” and showed a proactive smoothie. He made:

“Joe Root spoke last week about removing certain fashions of dismissal from the equation. This is what Gill tries to do here, beating so far from his fold.

“He identified that Woakes goes after him with LBW, so if he moves forward, anything that hits him on the pad could be out of the line.

“It is also put in length, as the diaper now needs to drag it and the balls can pass over the collision. This is good and proactive from the Captain of India.”
