Former Indian Wasim Jaffer’s ex-commentator shared his thoughts on the T20i configuration of India ahead of the 2025 Asia Cup, especially on the form of Captain Suryakumar Yadav and the growing presence of the Vice-Capitan Shubman Gill.
Wasim Jaffer believes that Suryakumar Yadav’s position as Captain T20i of India is not in danger despite the rapid increase in Shubman Gill, but his inconsistency with the bat while directing the side is still a real concern, and he must approach it before things slip out of his hands.

Since taking over T20i patron of India, Suryakumar Yadav has managed only 558 runs in 22 T20is. These numbers are below expectations for a player in his caliber, with his last series against England especially worrying, where he managed only 28 runs to an average of 5.60 and two ducks.

The commentator said that Suryakumar had highlighted the leg game and was not making the most of the opportunities for marking to the sight.
Wasim Jaffer was quoted by The Times of India: “His fallen numbers (while leading India) are a concern. Not getting the runs is a worry. In the last international he played, he sought to score mostly behind Square next to his leg. His shot selection was not on the brand.”
