Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir again gave birth to Shreyas Iyer’s omission from the India Testing Squad for England tour. Gambhir pointed out Iyer and stated that anyone can return to the workforce if he is in good shape.
Shreyas Iyer has been phenomenal in all formats after being abandoned from the central contract of the Cricket Control Council (BCCI). Iyer made an impressive comeback in firing two centuries on the Ranji Trophy and led Mumbai to win the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2024-25.

Gautam Gambhir said that Shreyas Iyer could be called to India’s tests, as the team management is open to accepting players who are in good shape and that they can contribute to the team.
The main coach of India also stated that selectors could only select 18 players for the England tour, but if any player plays well in the domestic circuit or is in good shape, the player will be called at any time during any series.
“Look, anyone can call. You can call anyone if you are in good shape. We could only choose 18, and the President-sector has already answered this question. For me, I think it’s always about being open to people who are in good shape and who can come to surrender.” Gautam Gambhir said at the press conference.
Iyer has been in good shape in recent times, since it broke 604 runs in 17 games at IPL 2025 and also directed its franchise in the final of the IPL 2025 season.
Shreyas Iyer has not been given any places for the Indian test team for the England tour, so he will not play the initial matches, but if any player is injured during the test series, Iyer could be called.
The selectors have only chosen three medium -sized players, including SHUBMAN GILL PATRON, and if any average order player injures or does not look good in the series may be replaced by Iyer.
India’s team could have experience on England’s tour after the withdrawal of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, and Iyer’s experience will be crucial to him for a memory.
After announcing the Indian Testing Template, the Agarkar CAP selector revealed that there is currently no place for Shreyas Iyer in the test settings. Agarkar agreed that Shreyas has played exceptionally well in the National Circuit, but at present Iyer has to wait for his opportunity.
Iyer is among a rare list of Indian batters who scored a test ton in his debut game. He has played 14 test games and scored 811 runs at an average of 35.3. The Mumbai batter was released from the tests in half when England traveled India by 2024.
