Punjab Kings (PBKs) directed by Shreyas Iyer (PBKs) faced the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) directed by Ajinkya Rahane (KKR) in the 31st Premier League (IPL) match 2025 on Tuesday, April 15.
Shreyas Iyer’s Punjab Kings won against the Kolkata Knight Riders by Ajinkya Rahane for 16 runs in a nail clash at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur.
First, Punjab Kings had a horrible exit as they got a score of 111 runs. However, pursuing the goal, the PBKs bowls got up and dragged KKR by 95 in 15.1.
All Punjab Kings bowls did a great job, but Yuzvendra Chahal was the best among them, as he made a 4 Wicket route to help his team defend the lowest score in the IPL history.
Speaking during the post-Party presentation ceremony, Shreyas Iyer could not express himself properly, but he revealed that he told Yuzvendra Chahal to control his breath and do the job. Stated:
“It’s hard to express -in my words. I just supported my instincts. I saw the ball turning a little, I asked Yuzi to control the breathing a little. We have to attack and the right players were in the right places. It’s hard to talk right now and these wins make it special.”
While talking about the pitch, Shreyas Iyer said he had an unequal rebound. Explained:
“Personally I heard, when I went out to the bat, I faced two balls: one was low and one hit the background of the bat, the people were difficult to sweep. There was a variable bounce on the wick, we got a decent total to be honest, looking at the victory of 16 runs. The rebound was not consistent. We had this on the back of our minds and we asked for the back of our minds.
Shreyas Iyer praised his bowls even more brilliantly and said that his hopes of winning increased when Yuzvendra Chahal started turning the ball. In the end, Shreyas Iyer ordered his colleagues not to be overcome with victory and stay humble. Stated:
“ Two doctors in two points that gave us this kind of impulse and the two beatings entered and took the impetus to them. When we saw that Yuzi entered and turned the ball, our hopes and expectations were higher and wanted the field to attack and right in front of the face so that they would make mistakes and the tide turned to us.
“It is important that we stay humble and we do not miss this victory. It is important that we take all the positives of this game and try to execute ours in the next game.”
On April 26, in Eden Gardens, Punjab Kings took the most out of the T20 history by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders by 8 doctors with 8 balls to save. Pursuing a massive goal of 262, PBKs came home at 18.4 points to record a historic victory.
It was not a mild day with the ball for PBKs, as KKR’s shake unit went to all the cannons and brought the bowls to the cleaners. Sam Curran, Harshal Patel and Kagiso Rabada exceeded 15 runs above, as the side of the house accumulated a colossal total of 261/6.
Arshdeep Singh was the selection of bowls for the PBKs with their 2 doctors for 45 runs, including Andre Russell and Shreyas Iyer’s scalients. Rahul Chahar also collided with a crucial wick by Sunil Narine, but in general, the bowls failed miserably.
Pursuing a total mammoth, Prabhsimran Singh provided PBKs a stellar start with its 54 of only 20 balls. Jonny Bansionw then stole the show with an impressive 108* 48 balls, as he raised his century in just 45 deliveries. It was well supported by Shashank Singh, who broke a 68 of 28 unbeaten balls, helping PBKs to seal the victory.
