Punjab Kings (PBKs) captain, Shreyas Iyer, has reached a new milestone in the IPL by directing the franchise to the playoffs for the first time in 11 years. The Mohali franchise confirmed its position between three of the four Playoff IPL 2025 teams after the game between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Titans (GT).
Gujarat took the first place on the point table with 18 points after defeating Delhi’s capitals on Sunday, May 18. Punjab is in third place, after winning eight of the 12 games. They share 17 points with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), but they are behind due to the net execution rate (NRR).

Iyer guided Delhi Capitals to the Playoffs in 2019 and then directed them to the IPL final in 2020. However, Delhi’s team lost to the Mumbai (MI) Indians in the IPL final.
Iyer moved to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and took them to his third title IPL, a decade after his last championship. He also became the first player to capture two different teams in the IPL final.

Shreyas Iyer joined a rare group of players after being purchased by Punjab Kings for $ 26.75 from Crore to the IPL 2025 auction. He became only the fifth cricket to lead three different IPLs in a campaign, joining the legends Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Steven Smith and Ajinkya Rahane.
Iyer has a reputation to transform struggle teams. Punjab Kings kept his nerve to record a close victory of ten runs on Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on Sunday.
