Shane Mosley expresses doubts: Terence Crawford’s hard challenge against Canelo Alvarez at 168 pounds

Shane Mosley says it will be difficult for Terence Crawford to win a victory against the super unquestionable champion Canelo Alvarez on September 13, because he did not move forward to get a couple of fights in this class of weight.

Mosley said that when he went from 147 to 154 during his career, he was slower and did not have the speed he had before. He says Canelo told him he felt it was better at 147 after beating him in 154 in 2012.

Canelo had slaughtered with Mosley in the past when he fought in 147, and heard that he was faster when he was lighter. Crawford had a struggle in 154 and did not impress Israil Madrimov last August. Now, two divisions are advancing to face Canelo in 168 after sitting in the ring for 13 months.

Mosley says that Jermell Charlo told him that when he went from 154 to 168 to fight Canelo in 2023, he felt slower than he had been.

Crawford’s lost opportunity lost the opportunity

“168, need some time to be -if you have not struggled once or twice where we can see and measure, I don’t know,” said Shane Mosley to Fighthype On Terence Crawford did not get an experience in 168 to prepare it to fight Canelo Alvarez.

Crawford should have taken two quick features in 168 to prepare for Canelo. He had a whole year to sit and wait for Alvarez’s struggle. So there was a lot of time for Terence to combat the tastes of Caleb Plant, Diego Pacheco and Bektemir Melikuziev.

Crawford was probably afraid to lose, and that Turki Alralikh changed his opinion for wanting to use it as an opponent on the B sidewalk so that he would fight in September. It is believed that Crawford is one of Turki’s favorite fighters. But if he lost in one or two of his tune fights in 168, Crawford may not be on Turki’s favorites list anymore.

Weight gain is slowing down Crawford, says Mosley

“Jermell Charlo told Crawford:” When you pass at 168, you go to slow down. You won’t be fast. You will be slow. You will not be able to move so much. You will feel different. You will get tired faster because you have an additional weight. So you have to deal with this.

Crawford seemed slower, up to 154. You can only imagine the slower one will move until 168, moving all this additional weight around the night throughout the night against the great fist.

The former undisputed half -weight champion, Jermell, was slower when he moved to 154, and was a naturally larger fighter than Crawford. He did not have to suppose so much weight, but he still slowed him down, and ended up losing a wide decision in Canelo.

“This will be the first struggle at 168. You have been at 154 once. You have been at 147 (from 2018 to 2023). 154 Once, and then you go to 168. It’s a bit difficult,” said Mosley.

What Mosley is leaving out is that Crawford did not look spectacular in his fight in 154 against Israil Madrimov. Terence won the fight, but it was very close and did not distinguish the division. This performance showed that Crawford would not be able to collect all belts at 154 as he had done at 140 and 147.

If Crawford had stayed in this class of weight, they may have been beaten. There are three or four in the division that would have been a nightmare for aging Crawford.
