Shakur Stevenson wants to see Tyson Fury fight IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois after losing his rematch against unified champion Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday night in Riyadh.
Fury should fight Dubois, but he won’t go anywhere near this apex predator. With the way Dubois goes to the body, Fury would be very vulnerable in his delicate condition.
I don’t think Shakur understands what Fury is all about. He takes calculated risks, and he’s not about to put his head on the block by countering Dubois’ walking guillotine. If fury were true, Audie Murphy dude, you shouldn’t ask him twice to face Dubois. He doesn’t talk about it, though. Fighting Dubois would be bad for Fury’s health.
That would show a lot of guts for the Gypsy King to take a fight with Dubois because after what just happened, he wouldn’t want to suffer a third straight loss. It would be a fight that would be easy to make, considering that Fury and Dubois share the same promoter, Frank Warren.
Prior to Fury’s two losses against Usyk, he had been considered the best fighter in the division. His fans saw him as the best, and didn’t care that his resume lacked quality wins.
Many fans would also like to see Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) fight Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) next. That would allow him to snap his two-game losing streak and help generate interest in a matchup against Anthony Joshua.
As things stand now, Fury would go into the AJ fight with a 0-2 record in his last two fights, making their matchup a money grab. It is almost impossible for Fury and his promoters to agree to fight the 27-year-old Dubois.
He is too powerful, dangerous and too young for Fury. Gypsy King was hurt by Usyk, who is not a puncher. The three fights Fury had against Deontay Wilder did something to him.
Fury’s promoter Frank Warren and Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn are interested in setting up a fight between these two next. Hearn said he would like the first fight to be in London’s Wembley Stadium and the second in Riyadh.
Hearn is in a mad rush to make the Joshua-Fury fight because he knows these two guys are too over it to be trusted fighting top 15 contenders unless they were well vetted ahead of time and considered 100% safe .
