Shakur Stevenson (24-0, 11 kos) did not waste time to call Gervonta Davis after Shakur’s victory over William Zepeda (33-0, 27 ko) on Saturday night at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York.
Stevenson told the fans, “Let’s get the box again to put the best against the best.” In other words, it looks like the “best”, but has not fought against the other best fighters at the age of 135. Overcoming Zepeda by a weirdly broadly spacious score set does not make Shakur the “best”.
The world saw Zepeda’s two previous fights against Tevin Farmer, who possibly did a better job against him that Stevenson did tonight. Farmer did not receive Shakur’s celebrity treatment with these scores: 118-110, 118-110 and 119-109.
Shakur’s light and light curriculum
– William Zepeda
– Josh Padley
– Artem Harutyunyan
– Edwin de los Santos
– Shuichiro Yoshino
Is it a good enough resume for Shakur to demand a fight against Gervonta Davis? I don’t think so. This is an initial resume for someone who only wet your feet as a beginner in the light division. To share the ring with the king, Tank Davis, Shakur has to fight the fighters much better than this limited group.
“I already told you who I want. The best before the best. This should be my next struggle. I told her i’m a dog. I am a top -notch level fighter, “Shakur Stevenson said in Post-Lluita Press Conference Tonight, when he was asked who he wants to fight below, letting Gervonta Davis wants to know.
Despite Shakur’s victory tonight against Zepeda, his resume remains slim in light, without what many fans consider the highest fighters. Zepeda’s previous two fights against Tevin Farmer, both razor-closse, showed that it is not one of the first five places.
Stevenson’s worthy adversaries
These are the fighters better than Zepeda, and those who Stevenson has not yet struggled. If I had to choose one of this group that Shakur should fight to win a Davis Mega-Lluita tank, it would be the 2020 Olympic Gold Medalist Andy Cruz. It is the type found in the other struggles of the division.
“We make the boxing again a lot. We put the best fighters in the ring together, and we see who comes out victorious,” Shakur said, seeing as one of the best in Lightweight.
Stevenson still has to fight the best boys in the light division since he moved to the division in 2023. His victory tonight against Zepeda was a good start, but it was not one of the talents of 135 LB.
