Shakur Stevenson slammed Gervonta Davis in an interview, noting that he has used weight stipulations on his opponents and faces “less talented fighters” to make himself look better than he is.
WBC lightweight champion Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) became angry when told Gervonta was unimpressed with his record and asked what he has done in his career to want to fight him. Tank shut down any possibility of a fight against Shakur, considering him unworthy to meet the King. This is true. Shakur is totally incapable of being in his presence.
It is Shakur’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, who has been discussing the idea of him fighting Tank Davis in 2025. Hearn has planned 2025 for the Newark, New Jersey native, talking about him fighting these three:
Now, Shakur is even talking like a fight with Tank Davis is a foregone conclusion, without him saying anything. Tank is like, “What is this guy talking about?”
“He just doesn’t look real. No disrespect, but I’m a real person. I’m not going to go out there and act like Tank’s not a good fighter,” Shakur Stevenson told Boxing newsreacting to being told Gervonta Davis said he wasn’t impressed with his record, and shut down rumors the two were in the ring because he sees no value in fighting Shakur.
“The same way he asks me what have I done for the sport of boxing, I think he should look in the mirror and ask the same question because it’s like what have you done?” Shakur continued about Tank Davis. “Even the guys you knocked out have all been with a weight clause, a weight loss. It looks good to the public and people who don’t know, but I’m a fighter. I know what’s going on. I know what you are doing
“You’re taking less talented fighters and putting them in the ring with you and making them look like they’re on your level, but they’re not. Until I fight an elite fighter, I don’t want to know anything about ‘him,” Shakur said.
What Gervonta says is 100% true. Who has Shakur wrestled during his career? nobody good He beat a couple of scrappy fighters at 130, captured three paper titles against weak opposition, and looked hella bad since moving up to 135. He was booed out of the arena in his fight against Edwin De Los Santos and the fans fled. he drove in his last fight against weak Artem Harutyunyan last July in his hometown of Newark.
“He (Tank) acted like he couldn’t get a lot of people in the ring. Why didn’t he try to get Edwin De Los Santos? Why wouldn’t that be the fight you want? Since you want to talk bad about me, fight someone who I fought. And you talked about my performance doing it. So get over me,” Shakur said.
Fighting the tank Edwin De Los Santos wouldn’t do anything for him and his career because this guy hasn’t fought in 14 months. He was coming off a loss to Stevenson, and by the time Gervonta fought him in August or September, he would have been inactive for 21 months.
Shakur’s stock has plummeted since De Los Santos exposed him as a chicken runner on November 16, 2023. He’s done nothing to turn things around by fighting him in a rematch or looking brave in his next fight against the lightweight Arten Harutyunyan. .
