Seth MacFarlane has made the worst sitcom ever, according to Metacritic

Seth Macfarlane is undoubtedly a force to be considered in Hollywood, especially in the television space. As a long -standing show creator like “Family Guy” And “American Dad,” his creations are now installations of the pop culture landscape. But even heavy truckers are missing from time to time. For MacFarlane, his biggest loss came so far in 2013 when Fox brought his “dads” live-active multi-camera position comedy. It is arguably the biggest moment of his career, and the network seemed to think he couldn’t lose. What ended was an unrivaled critical mislead.

How bad was the response to “fathers,” exactly? Amazingly enough, it’s a position like the worst reviewed position comedy Metacritic with terrible 15 “Metascore.” It should be noted that the site only accounts for seven or more reviews. Putting aside any technical details, “fathers” is a wide failure that lasted only one term spanning 19 episodes before getting the ax. The Cancel Order came before the final chapter was broadcast in July 2014.

Co-created by Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, “Dads” was a comedy for two successful gaming entrepreneurs / best friend (played by Seth Green and Giovanni Ribisi) whose lives are defeated when a must to their fathers to move in with them. An attempt at a comedy follows. The fathers were played by Martin Mull (“Clue”) and Peter Riegert (“The Mask”).

The series originally received a six -episode order from the network before being erected for a full term. Fox was, understandably, strong in its prospects. He had MacFarlane as one of the key producers and a promising cast. Macfarlane also came away from the huge success of his film “Ted,” which made a stunning $ 549 million at the box office, having resulted in a sequel, and later led to a prequel TV show on Peacock. What might go wrong?

Why were critics so fierce against “fathers” when he was released? It was largely labeled, as funny and offensive. As one example, there is a moment where Eli Green and Warner from Ribisi force Veronica Brenda Song, an asian-American woman, to dress as an anime girl to gain Chinese investors. Warner’s father, Crawford, played by Mull, at one time says, “You can’t trust (Chinese people). The reason ‘Shanghai’ is a verb.” MacFarlane is no stranger to controversial humor as “Family Guy” contains a great deal of itbut he did not land in this case.

Fox was well aware of the discourse and the network even released a trailer for the show (above) containing some of the bad reviews, such as Huffpost calling it “offensive,” along with Positive comments from fans. Before the premiere at a press event in August 2013 (Per Neat), Wild acknowledged to correspondents that the pilot episode of “dads” could have had its perceived problems, but would aim to repair those as the show progressed:

“We want to keep (‘fathers’) offensive and disrespectful, but the most important thing is that it is funny. If we missed the mark in the pilot, we shoot to hit it better at shows that come. “

To Wild’s credit, it often takes time for a show to find its base. “The Orville” Macfarlane took himself a whole season to find out what should be. The reception for the show was too sour, however, and the audience was not there for Fox to give him no more rope. A second season was never going to be in the cards for this one.
