Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson praises his previous marriage to an ex-husband Prince Andrew.
In a new interview with The Sunday Times published on Saturday, December 14, the Duchess of York, 65, spoke about her relationship with Prince Andrew.
“I was completely and utterly in love with Andrew,” she said of the start of her relationship with Andrew, 64, “I would do it all over again, 100 per cent. He is the best, a great man with a big heart, and kind. Our wedding was the best day of my life. But I gave up my anonymity that day. I could because love conquers all. It is still with us today. I won’t let him down.”
He added, “He supports me as much as I support him. He has supported me through thick and thin, not just marriage or divorce. We agree on the three basic elements – communication, compromise, compassion.”
Fergie’s interview took place before news emerged that Andrew was said to be involved with an accused businessman being a Chinese spy. In a statement to the BBC on Saturday, the Duke of York said he had “ceased all contact” with the individual, and had met the man “through official channels” and “nothing was discussed ever of a sensitive nature. “
As for Ferguson, she reflected further on the earliest days of her and Andrew’s relationship when speaking to the Sunday Times.
“I first met Andrew when I was 12,” she told the outlet. “My first thought was that I was going to marry him. We came back into each other’s lives when Diana he invited me to Ascot in 1985 and six months later we got engaged. You weren’t allowed to hang out or live together back then. Diana couldn’t, I couldn’t.”
Ferguson said the next generation of royals had “learned” from them, noting, “Sophie (Duchess of Edinburgh) a Catherine (Princess of Wales) he could They both got to know their boys.”
Ferguson’s sister, Jane Luedecke, also spoke to the Sunday Times about the former couple’s relationship.
“Sarah and Andrew are the best divorced couple I know,” Luedecke said. “They have done it for their children; it’s amazing. I came to stay at Royal Lodge in May and went horse riding with Andrew at Windsor Castle. It was lovely to get back on a horse and ride through the grounds again.”
Prince Andrew has had a host of controversies and allegations in the past. In October 2019, Andrew was accused by Virginia Roberts Giuffre of sexual assault. This came amid news of his friendship with the late Jeffrey Epstein.
In an interview with BBC Newsnight in November 2019, Andrew denied the allegations, saying he had “no recollection of ever meeting this woman, nothing at all.” Andrew said, “It never happened.”
Giuffre said she was forced to have sex with him three times between 1999 and 2002.
