Australian national cricket team batsman Alex Carey spoke about the conflict between Virat Kohli and Sam Konstas during the fourth Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He said he doesn’t think the young man took it to heart.
Virat Kohli and Sam Konstas were involved in a massive brawl during the first innings of the match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne. Following this, the senior batsman of the Indian national cricket team was fined 20% of his match fees as he accepted the offense charged by the match umpire.
Virat Kohli and Sam Konstas bumped shoulders as they moved around the pitch between the end and it saw the two batsmen engage in a massive argument. This saw Usman Khawaja as well as the umpires get involved and separate the two players in the middle of the fight.
Then Virat Kohli and Konstas didn’t shy away from trying. As the Indian batsman was sledding the batsman, the youngster was seen to get the crowd up and put pressure on the Indian national cricket team.
However, in what was good for the match, Virat Kohli and Sam Konstas shook hands at the end of the match. They were also seen chatting with each other but the battle between them will surely be on the cards during the upcoming match at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney.
Alex Carey spoke about the battle, saying both players shook hands and added that the young batsman didn’t take anything to heart. Speaking to reporters, he explained:
“I don’t know. I think I saw a picture of them shaking hands and a little pat on the back. Oh, it’s Test Cricket. Yeah, I’m not 100% sure. But Sam didn’t take it . in the heart”.
Alex Carey also praised Sam Konstas for his batting at the MCG, saying that India did not expect the batsman to play this way and also added that he is not sure if the young batsman will follow the same template in Sydney. He explained:
“Yeah, I was a spectator that first session and I probably had the emotions, the 90 thousand that were there. Sometimes, I couldn’t see it; sometimes, I was cheering, but just the energy that he brought. It was something different, I probably didn’t expect that much of a difference, but he played a style of cricket that, yes, was probably new to India as well.”
“We’ll wait and see how he plays here (SCG). I don’t think that’s going to be his project every Test match, but to be able to throw some punches early and give us a little bit of momentum for us, the opening partnership. he probably just lacked that intensity.”
Alex Carey has played a decent role for Australia with the bat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The hosts lead the series by a 2-1 margin and would look to win the next game.
