Salman Rushdi striker sentenced to 25 years in prison

A man in New Jersey, stabbed and partially blinded by Sir Salman Rushdi’s novelist at the New York lecture, was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Friday.

27 -year -old Matar was convicted of attempting to kill and attack earlier this year.

Sir Salman performed on stage in front of the audience in August 2022, when he was stabbed several times in his face and neck. The attack left him blind in one eye, damage to his liver and a paralyzed arm caused by nerve damage.

The attack took place 35 years after the contradictory novel by Saer Salman “Satanic poems”, which has long made it the goal of threatening death for his reflection of Prophet Muhammad.

The Matar received a maximum of 25 years for attempting to kill Sir Salman.

He was also found guilty of attacking a person interviewed by Sir Salman, Henry Riza, and sentenced to seven years after the release for this attack.

The sentences should work at the same time because both victims were injured at the same event, Jason Schmidt, Prosecutor of Chautuka, said on Friday.

Before he was convicted, the Matar stood and made a statement about the freedom of speech in which he called Rushdi a hypocritical, the Associated Press reports.

“Salman Rushdi wants to respect other people,” said the Matar, dressed in clothing with a white striped prison and handcuffed. “He wants to become a bully, he wants to make fun of other people. I disagree with that.”

Sir Salman was not in court for the sentence of the attacker on Friday.

The Matar was convicted of attempting to kill and attack in February 2025 after an intensive trial, during which Sir Salman told in detail about the moment he felt sure that he would die.

During a two-week trial, he testified that he saw a man racing to him while on stage at the Institute of Historical Art in Shautuka, New York.

He said his attacker’s eyes “were dark and seemed very fierce.”

Sir Salman told the court that he initially did not understand that he had been stabbed, thinking instead of being hit.

The Matar stabbed Salman Salman 15 times, including the cheek, chest, eyes, neck and thigh.

The prosecutor’s office claimed the attack was aimed.

“There were many people on this day, but there was only one person who was aimed,” said lawyer Jason Schmidt, then jurled.

The defense lawyer Andrew Bautigan claimed that the prosecutor’s office did not prove that the Matar was reminding Salman’s killing.

The Matar, who did not find himself guilty, did not testify in his defense. His lawyers did not call any witnesses.

“I don’t think he’s a very good man,” said Matar about the author in the history of the New York Post 2022. “He is the one who attacked Islam.”

The Matar praised the High leader of Iran Ayatala Khomeini for the call for the shooting of Sir Salman.

The attack took place 35 years after the conflicting novel by Sara Salman’s “Satanic Poems” was published.

The novel, inspired by the life of the Muslim Prophet Muhammad, caused indignation among some Muslims who considered its blasphemy content.

Sir Salman encountered countless death threats and was forced to hide for nine years after Iran’s religious leader issued a Fat – or a decree calling for the author’s death from the book.

But in recent years, the author said he believed that threats against him had decreased.

Before the attack, Sir Salman told the German magazine that he felt his life was “relatively normal”.

Later, the British-Indian novelist spoke in detail about his experience and a long way to recovery to a memoir called “Knife: Meditations” after the attempt to murder.
