Promoter Oscar De La Hoya says he sees no “need” for Ryan Garcia to fight Devin Haney again in a rematch. He claims that Garcia already “destroyed” Haney in their fight last year, and there are better fighters for him, like Teofimo Lopez.
Haney cries
Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) has consistently complained about his loss and blamed Ryan for testing positive for the banned substance Ostarine. He has been using this as an excuse for his failure in his loss.
If Devin really believes that, it’s weird that he wanted a rematch. Why not move on if you think Garcia is one “deceiver.”
With the way Haney has been wrong with Ryan, I should forget him just on principle. This is what Canelo Alvarez would do if someone he beat was constantly getting hammered. Kingry should follow suit.
During De La Hoya’s career, he wouldn’t give a fighter a rematch if he beat them as hard as Ryan did Haney. Oscar would move on and not fight an unnecessary rematch.
Obviously, the money Haney would get fighting other guys won’t be as good as it would be in a rematch. Ryan (24-1, 20 KOs) is a star and no one Haney can fight at 140 or 147 that comes close to him.
Bigger fights
De La Hoya is right that Garcia didn’t need a rematch because he hit Haney hard. There’s more money for Ryan to fight these guys:

“Yes, absolutely. If they (Ryan and Teofimo) are the best at the moment, and that’s what people want to see, then we have to do it. It sounds like a broken record here, but I was a fighter once. Now I’m a promoter, but I want to see the best fight the best,” said De La Hoya.
