Russian ballet maestro Yuri Grigorovich dies 98 years

Famous Russian ballet -choreographer, Yuri Grigorovich, died at the age of 98.

Described as one of the greatest choreographers of the 20th century, he was the artistic director of the ballet of the Bolshesian from 1964 to 1995, which is said to be ruled by an iron fist.

Grigorovich’s productions from the stone flower, Ivan scary, and Romeo and Juliet reinterpreted Soviet ballet. Achak for the revival of men’s dance, he created parts for men who require exceptional force and artistry.

Born in 1927, a decade after the Bolshevik Revolution, his work was imbued with the traditions of the classic ballet.

His uncle, Georgy Rosa, studied under the legendary Vaslav Nizhinsky and young Grigorovich continued to dance as a soloist with Ballet Kirov in Leningrad before turning to choreography.

His departure from the Bolshev in 1995, against the backdrop of contracts over the contracts of the performers, led to the first strike of dancers in the theater in his 200-year history. During the planned performance, the dancer performed to tell the audience that the show had been canceled, leaving stunned silence.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Bolshea faced instability. Grigorovich moved to Krasnodar to find a new ballet company. He returned to the majority in 2008 as a choreographer and ballet.

Grigorovich received the main Soviet and Russian awards, including the titles of the People’s Artist of the USSR and the Hero of Socialist Labor. His wife, known Ballerina Natalia Zmertnova, died in 2008.

His death came on the same day as one of the most famous employees, a dancer Yuri Vladimir, is 83.

Valery Hergiev, head of the theaters of the Bolshesian and Marian, told the newspapers Izvestiya that Grigorovich was “a legendary figure that will continue to fulfill respect and admiration for decades.”
