The UK and France call on Russian President Vladimir Putin to prove that he wants a peace treaty with Ukraine, before the negotiations between Putin and Donald Trump on Tuesday.
French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the “courage” of the President of Ukraine Loladimir Zelens, agreeing to the term of ceasefire and challenged Russia to do the same.
“Sufficient death. Enough life is destroyed. Enough devastation. The points must be silenced,” Macron said in the message on X.
British Foreign Minister David Lami said that Putin should agree with a “complete and unconditional ceasefire”, informing the deputies that he saw “no sign” that Putin was seriously treated.
He warned that in the UK and its allies there are “more cards we can play” to help Russia agree on “seriously”.
A more optimistic note was heard in the White House on the eve of Trump-Purven’s talks, which would take place by phone, saying that peace in Ukraine was “never closer.”
White House press secretary Caroline Levit told reporters on Monday that Trump was “determined” to provide a peaceful deal.
As for the negotiations, she said: “There is a power plant located on the border of Russia and Ukraine, which was considered for discussion with the Ukrainians, and tomorrow it will appeal to it in his call with Putin.”
The likelihood is likely to become the nuclear power plant Zaporizhia, the largest in Europe. It has been occupied by the Russian forces since March 2022, and fears of the nuclear accident have been stored from the fighting in the area.
Asked on Sunday, what concessions are considered at the ceasefire negotiations, Trump said: “We will talk about the earth. We will talk about power plants (…) We are already talking about it, the current assets.”
Kremlin’s press secretary Dmitry Pesko declined to comment on what the leaders will discuss, saying, “We never do it.”
While Putin had previously said he supported the ceasefire, he also posted a list of conditions to achieve peace.
One of the regions of the dispute is the Russian western region of Kursk, where Ukraine launched a military invasion in August and seized some territory.
In recent weeks, Russia has pushed him to return him, and Putin claims that he completely runs Kursk.
He also raised many questions about how to control the fire and conduct the police officer in the east, and said he would not receive NATO troops in the territory.
Last week, a peaceful proposal on the table was discussed in Saudi Arabia.
A few hours later, recorded in the room, they announced proposals for a 30-day ceasefire, which Ukraine said he was ready to accept.
French President Macron and recently elected Prime Minister of Canada Mark Karnya, who met on Tuesday, stressed that their peoples will continue their “unwavering” support for Ukraine and demand “clear obligations” by Russia.
