US President Donald Trump says Russia and Ukraine will “stop the fire immediately” and stop the war after a two -hour phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
Trump, who described the conversation as “very well”, also said that peace conditions would need to be arranged between the two sides.
Putin said he was ready to work with Ukraine over the “Memorandum of a Possible Future Agreement” but did not address the demands of the United States and European countries for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire.
Trump also talked to the President of Ukrainian Volodimir Zelensky, who said, “This is a decisive moment,” and urged the US not to distance themselves from the negotiations.
After his call alone with Trump, Zelensky confirmed Ukraine’s desire for a “complete and unconditional ceasefire” and warned whether Moscow was ready, “there should be stronger sanctions.”
Speaking earlier before Trump’s conversation with Putin, Zelensky said he asked that any decisions on Ukraine would not be made without his country, calling them “issues of principles” for Ukraine.
He added that he had no details in the Memorandum, but said that after they would receive anything from the Russians, they would “be able to formulate their vision accordingly.”
Writing on his social truth page after the call, Trump said: “Russia and Ukraine will immediately start the ceasefire and, more importantly, stopped the war,” adding that he reported Zelensky in the second call, which also included other leaders of the world.
He added: “The conditions for this will be negotiations between the two parties as it may be because they know the details of the negotiations that no one else knows about.”
Zelensky stated that the negotiation process “should include both US and European representatives at the appropriate level.”
“It is very important for all of us that the US is not moving away from negotiations and pursuit of peace because the only one who benefits from this is Putin,” he explained.
The US president has repeatedly promised to stop the war and was increasingly disappointed that he was ongoing in the second term.
Meanwhile, Putin, who described the call with Trump, which he took to music school to visit the city of Sochi as “sincere, informative and constructive” – also spoke about the potential of ceasefire.
“We have agreed with the US president that Russia is proposing and ready to work with Ukraine in the memorandum of a possible future peace agreement,” he said.
This, adding, will determine “a number of positions”, including “the principles of settlement and terms for concluding a possible peace agreement … Including the possible ceasefire over a period of time if the relevant agreements are reached.”
Yuri Ushakov, Assistant to the Russian President, said the ceasefire was not “discussed … Although Trump, of course, emphasizes his interest in reaching a particular agreement as soon as possible.”
Zelensky held a second call with Trump after the US president spoke with Putin, which also included the President of the European Commission Ursul von der Leyen and the leaders of France, Italy, Germany and Finland.
“I want to thank President Trump for his tireless efforts to bring the ceasefire to Ukraine,” said von der Leyen, adding, “It is important that the US remain engaged.”
Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni said Pope Leo’s proposal is holding potential peace talks that is welcomed by the US and other leaders in the call and “positively evaluated”.
Earlier this month, the new Pope suggested the Vatican as a place for possible peace talks after Putin refused Zelensky’s suggestion to meet face to face in Turkey for negotiations.
Earlier, Kyiv said Putin’s comments say he wishes that the holidays are hollow.
“Putin wants war,” said Andrei Ermak, the chief aide of the President of Ukraine on Sunday, said The biggest attack of drones after a full -scale invasion It began in 2022.
Ukraine says at least 10 people died in Russian strikes Nine people in attack to a civil minibus in northeast Ukraine. Russia states that Ukrainian drones also intercepted.
Strike in the bus happened only after a few hours after Russia and Ukraine spent the first face to face Talking for more than three years. The prisoner’s premises were agreed, but there was no commitment to ceasefire.
Trump suggested attending talks in Turkey if Putin was also there, but the Russian president refused to go.
Russia announced the ceasefire earlier – but only temporary. It announced one for 8-11 May .
The Kremlin announced a similar, 30-hour truce for Easter, but while both parties reported the fight, they accused each other of hundreds of violations.
