The highest court of South Africa ruled that the husbands could take their wives, abolishing the law that banned them.
In the victory for the two pairs, the Constitutional Court ruled that the law had composed gender discrimination.
Henry Van der Merve was refused the right of the wife of Gian Jennah, while Andreas Nicholas Bornman could not make his last name to include his wife Jess Donlyly, born, Sabc reports.
Parliament now has to change the law on birth and death, as well as its rules to put into force.
Both couples claimed that the law was archaic and patriarchal, and violated the rights of equality enshrined in the Constitution, which South Africa adopted at the end of the rules of white and violations.
They successfully disputed the law in the lower court, but asked the Supreme Court to confirm their ruling.
