During her visit, Lale told her about the program in which he and his colleagues -prisoners help train and place dogs with blind, veterans and children who were diagnosed with autism.

At the suggestion of Lale, O’Donnell decided to get a dog through the program for his 12-year-old son, which is autism. She “spent two weeks that went to jail daily” before bringing home Labrador mix named Kumu, who was trained by a prisoner who served time for armed robbery.

“I immediately noticed the difference in clay,” she said Nyt. “I was shocked by learning that all the stories I heard from other mothers -autists were true.”
