India captain Rohit Sharmato whom it is currently presented The Mumbai Indians (MI) in Premier League India (IPL) In 2025 he recently shared an in -depth conversation with former Australian Captain Michael Clarkefocusing on the long-awaited series of five-party tests between India and England. The series is scheduled to start June 20, 2025 in Headingley in Leeds.
Speaking to Beyond23 Cricket Podcast, Clarke began recognizing the huge challenge ahead of the Indian team, saying that overcoming England in his own playground is one of the hardest tasks of the world’s cricket. He added that the tour would be followed by another series of demanding tests in Australia, which suggests that the Indian calendar is full of high holding competitions.
“ You have five England Testing Matches, which will obviously be a hard series. To overcome England in their own courtyard, and then they come to Australia, so their work was reduced. This will be a fantastic series. And I suppose Bumrah will be appropriate, yes? And if you can keep Shami in shape, I think India is a chance to win this series. ” Clarke said.
Rohit responded by remembering how the last time India traveled through England, the series ended in a 2-2 draw, which left an unfinished business.
“Yes, no, absolutely.
Clarke emphasized that if India can hold Jasprit bumrah and Mohammed Shami Fit and shoot, they would have a real chance to win in England. Calling a Bumrah, the best fast diaper in the world right now, clearly revealed how the presence of an experienced pacer like him, especially a family member with the abroad conditions, could change the skin of the series.
“I think, how, Bumrah is, in my opinion, is the best at this time. But you can’t buy the bowling experience in Australian conditions because he knows these conditions. He has played there. I think this would have changed the whole series. So now he will go to England, if you can have with others around …” Clarke stated.
Rohit touched the demanding nature of IPL programming and how it can affect the physical shape and preparation of Indian quick bowls before the England tour. Although the format itself restricts the bowls to only four points per game, Rohit said that the real challenge lies in the relentless journey and the lack of recovery time.
Rohit further explained that players are often playing one day, traveling to the next and returning to take the field the next day. He also expressed his hope that both Bumrah and Shami, along with other key members of the Indian test workforce, would leave the IPL without any injury problem
“Yes, we just have to make sure that you know, they go out very well from the IPL. The IPL is very good without any problems, and then we have a team adjusted to England. Rohit concluded.
Both Bumrah and Shami have had difficult displacements with injuries in recent years, but their importance for Indian test ambitions is still unmatched. Currently, Bumrah runs the Mumbai Bowling attack on IPL 2025, returning to the competitive cricket after suffering a injury during the fifth test of the border-Gavaskar trophy against Australia Earlier this year.
Shami in the meantime is representing Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) In the same season IPL. He has not played the test cricket since June 2023, when he presented against Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) end. A recurring injury kept him out of the tour of 2024–25 in Australia and was left out for much of the year. However, his return to the Indian squad for the Trophy of Champions ICC 2025, where India came up as champions, was a successful recovery.
