Stewart, 80, had received the Lifetime Achievement Award The ceremony on Monday, May 26,held in the Fontawebleau in Las Vegas.
Before he could get to the stage, however five of his eight children – Kimberly45, Sea44, Ruby37, Renee32, and Liam30 – reunite in the podium to honor their father.
“Tonight, we’re here as the biggest and most loving fans of our father, Sir Rod Stewart,” said Ruby. “Or as we all know, Papa Stew. Some men may have all the luck and some stay forever young, but our father is so much more than that.”
One of the biggest nights in music is also an exhibition for some of the most popular artists and performers in the industry showcasing their red carpet style. After a video montage highlighting his career achievements, Stewart appeared on stage and voiced his surprise to his guests.
“I’m absolutely flabbergasted,” he said. “I didn’t know they were here. My children.”
Rod shares Kimberly and Sean with his ex-wife Alana StewartRuby with ex-girlfriend Kelly Emberg and Renee and Liam with his ex-wife Rachel Hunter.
The rocker is also the father of a girl Sarah61, which he shares with ex-boyfriend Susannah Boffeyand sons Alast19, and Aidid14, with his wife, Penny Lancaster.
“I have eight altogether. I had no TV,” joking rod.
Rod said he was “so thrown” by the surprise appearance of his children, explaining that he believed they had “recorded” their presentation earlier.
“Ugly are they not, all of them?” Rubbed rod again.
Reflecting back on his legendary career, Rod said he always had a burning ambition to sing. “
“That’s all I wanted to do,” Rod explained. “I didn’t want to be rich or famous. And here I am, a few years later, raising this amazing prize. Thank you.”
The American Music Awards celebrated its return to television broadcasting with a magnificent evening hosted by Jennifer Lopez. Lopez, 55, was 21 when he made his first appearance at AMA in 1991 as a reserve dancer for new children on the block. The singer then launched a performance of his classic song “Forever Young” which closed the awards show out as his children watched with an admiration of just off stage.
The singer’s second eldest child, Kimberly, showed her growing baby mound on stage. In March, she announced that she expected her second child, but did not reveal the father’s identity. “A little boy coming soon,” she shared through Instagram.
