The Colorado Rockies rewarded high school baseball star Ethan Holliday With a record bonus after being selected in the MLB draft earlier this month.
Holliday, 18, signed for a $ 9 million bonus with the Rockies on Tuesday, July 22, the largest bonus received by a high school player in draft history.
The figure is tied for the fourth highest bonus ever.
Holliday, chosen with the 4th general selection by the Rockies in the draft of July 14, is the son of a former Rockies -Seren Matt Holliday and younger brother Baltimore Orioles Infielder Jackson Hollidayselected with General Selection No. 1 in 2025 MLB nraft.
Ethan is currently higher at Stillwater High School in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
In an interview with Espnat After being selected by the Rockies, Ethan said he was “highly sucked” to join his father’s former organization.
“It’s an amazing feeling,” he continued. “This opportunity is unbelievable. I’m so grateful. The Rockies Foundation is truly amazing.”
In a separate interview with MLB Network in the draft, Ethan said, “We will not sit here and say it has been easy.”
“But also, I’m so wonderful to be able to play baseball,” he continued. “If the hardest thing in my life is expectations and weights, then I’m going to wake up extremely gratefully every day. The people who pour into my life, the people who support me, that’s one of the main reasons why I can do what I love.”
Ethan recently explained how his father – who played a total of six seasons with the Rockies in addition to periods with Oakland Athletics, St. Louis Cardinals and New York Yankees – and brother Jackson, 21, helped him mentally prepare for the journey ahead.

In January, Ethan signed a historical deal (name, image and similarity) with Adidas. Although no specific financial details were announced, he wasted no time spending some of his earnings.

He told the outlet that his goal for the coming year is to “become more consistent with my order.”
“Success comes from what you do repeatedly,” explained Ethan. “So I’m working on streamlining my habits that will help me improve my game.”
