Robert De Niro finally tackled why he was not present for his first ever Oscari win.
“I didn’t think much about it,” admitted De Niro, 81, on Tuesdsay’s episode, March 11, Late night with Seth Meyers.
De Niro received his first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for playing Don Vito Corleone in 1974 The godfather Part II. During his interview with a late night host Seth MeyersHe revealed that he was not present because he was busy filming a film in Italy. In fact, he did not even discover that he had won the Oscar until the next morning.
“I was doing (historic drama 1976) 1900 with (director) with Bernardo Bertolucci In Northern Italy. It’s nine hours later there so I got a call early in the morning that I had won the Academy Award, ”he remembered.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s improvisation choices did not always impress Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro while filming the flower moon killers. “Every now and then, Bob and I would look at each other and roll our eyes a little. When Meyers asked who considered De Niro to watch the Oscars on television, he admitted, “I don’t know, in those days, could you watch it (in other countries)… I didn’t think I’m going to win.”
De Niro remembered having a very short and casual phone call with someone in the US where he thanked the caller for informing him for the moment that defines a career. He was the only best supporting actor nominee missing on Oscar night when Ryan o’real and his daughter Tatum of O’Neal Announcing the category winner.
