Reyhan Demitri feels “anger and frustration” after the appointment of a new president

Large crowds of protesters gathered outside the Georgian parliament to oppose the appointment of a new president.

The BBC’s Reyhan Demitri saw protesters kicking a ball after Mikhail Kavelashvili, a former Manchester City footballer turned ultra-conservative politician, was elected as the next president of Georgia.

The protests were caused by the decision of the ruling party “Georgian Dream” to suspend negotiations on the country’s accession to the EU until 2028. Hundreds of people were detained throughout the country, journalists were among those injured by security forces.
