Resident Evil Reboot Lands director Zach Cregger

The popular zombie fire horror game Resident Evilwhat you do spawned a film franchise with Milla Jovovich in addition to many other adaptations, it is getting another go-around with one of the minds behind it barbarian. That movie also had video game adaptation in the pipeline, so it works both ways it seems.

Zach Cregger was tapped to lead a freshman Resident Evil reboot after the success of barbarian, revealed the Hollywood Reporter. Add to this the excitement behind his next Weaponsstarring Josh Brolin and Julia Garner; drummed a nice bidding war, according to the trade, since it is tested very well. Warner Brothers, which distributes Weapons through New Line, is in the running to acquire Creggers’ Resident Evil that he will write and direct. Competitors include Netflix, which has had its own television adaptation of the franchise.

Sources told THR that Cregger’s adaptation is “a revamp that will bring the title back to its horror roots and be more faithful to the original games.” The original story of Capcom’s PlayStation series released in 1996 centered on a diverse crew of characters who clashed against the Umbrella Corporation after they developed and released a deadly zombie virus. Constantin Films has held the rights to the IP since the ’90s, and will return to produce with PlayStation Productions.
