The parents and wife of one of the people who died when a nightclub roof fell in the Dominican Republic last week became the first to charge the club owners.
Virgilio Rafael Cruz, Lieutenant Police Police, was one of the 231 people who killed when the Merengue music concert fell the roof of Jet Music.
The Cruz -Ponte family’s lawyer said they had charged with murder against the owner and managers of the Jet Set club. Other families have said they also plan to file lawsuits.
The Jet Set owner, Antonio Espoille, said he was fully cooperating with an investigation into the causes of collapse.
The investigation is expected to take several months, officials said.
The lawyer who represents the family of Mr. Aponte, said he also accused the local government of neglecting his duty to ensure the place of all the necessary security recommendations.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Monday that the death toll increased to 231 after another five people died of injuries they received.
Interior Minister Farida Ravla said that 189 people were pulled alive from rubble.
Hundreds were in the building on Monday night to visit one of the usual dance music evenings of the club, in which the popular singer Merengue Rubby Pérez starred.
Perez and one of the saxophonists in their team, both of them were on stage during the collapse, died in the incident.
Perez Zulinka’s daughter, who was a singer in his father’s team, managed to get out of the rubble.
According to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences, two citizens of France, Haitian and an Italian citizen were among the killed.
Earlier, the US State Department said a few US citizens were killed.
The influence of the tragedy was felt outside the Dominican Republic in places with major Dominican communities such as New York.
News Mayor Eric Adams went to Santom -Doming on Sunday and visited the catastrophe.
“Not only my inhabitants, I considered them my family,” he said of the residents of the Dominican New York.
“And what do family members do during mourning? They mourn with you,” he added.
