Amber Portwood finds it difficult to cope with the realization that her daughter Leah May Want to be adopted.
“I thought I was already dark and deep in a hole of what happened to me from the incident in North Carolina and (Gary way) leaving me in the mountains, ”Amber, 34, shared on the episode on Thursday, April 17, from Teen Mother: Next ChapterIn reference to her ex get lost short In 2024. “But when I found out about my daughter saying she wanted to be adopted, she took over everything.”
In a chapter in March from the MTV reality show, Leah expressed to her father. Gary Shirleyhe would like to have a stepmom Kristina Shirley to be formally adopted.
Cameras rolled as Gary decided to meet with an attorney to discuss the next legal action. At the time, Leah agreed that she had to think about the issue a little more before agreeing to officially file paperwork.
“I was actually in bed for over four months,” shared Amber in a confessional interview, “but realized I really needed my mother.”
While Amber has a complex relationship with a mother Tonya Portwood Over the years, the pair reconnected after the reality star needed “shoulder to cry” during difficult times.

Courtesy of Amber Portwood/Tiktok“I’ve seen my mother three times in recent weeks alone when I hadn’t seen her in almost a year,” Amber shared. “When I wake up crying, all I do is call (hi).”
During the episode, Amber met her mother to lunch and expressed her hope that Tonya would meet her psychiatrist to better understand what she is mentally going through.
“I’m not just bipolar,” Amber explained for her diagnosis. “I have four great mental illnesses that I would like to explain to you.”
While Tonya offered her support, she also inadvertently upset her daughter when she admitted that she was still receiving texts from Leah. (During a recent chapter, Leah expressed her wish that Amber did not attend 16th anniversary celebrations.)
During dinner, Amber shared her fears that her daughter “was never going to come around.”
At the same time, he could not help but recognize the growth she has experienced with her own mother.
“I see how my relationship with my mother was completely troubled, and today I am with my mother,” Amber said in a confession. “I love my mother so much. This is why I have hope with Leah.”
