He said goodbye to the IPL less than a year after his retirement from the international cricket, which he had announced during the border-Gavaskar 2024-25 in December.

The legendary off-spinner began his trip to the IPL with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and ended with the same team, having been bought by five times champions for an INR 9.75 call at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

In general, the 38 -year -old represented five franchises (Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Supergiants, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals) in IPL.

He played 221 games in the T20 League of La Marpa and brought 187 doctors with an average of 30.22, an economy of 7.20 and a strike rate of 25.1. Above all, he finished his career as the fifth highest wick in the history of the IPL.

I think your legacy (as an IPL player) will not be as big as an international cricket player: Robin Uthappa

In a video shared on his official YouTube channel, Robin Uthappa, who shone by CSK at IPL, said that the Ravichandran Ashwin legacy would not be considered as great as in the international cricket, where he brought 765 doctors in 287 games.

Robin Uthappa said Ashwin used the defensive options much more than the offensives to the Indian Premier League (IPL), which was completely opposed to what he did at the International Cricket Arena.

“I think his legacy (as an IPL player) will not be as great as an international cricket player because of the options he used after a certain point,” said Robin Uthappa.

“He used many defensive options in the IPL compared to the offensive options he used in the international cricket, especially the trial cricket. I would like to use his out of return. It is such a mixed bag for him in the IPL. Much happened a lot through his IPL career. His primary skill became a secondary goal,” he said.

Could be the main coach at IPL – Robin Uthappa in Ravichandran Ashwin

Uthappa said that Ashwin’s journey in coaching and mentoring papers would be interesting and supported him to become the main coach at IPL. Said:

“I think he will make a fascinating coach. But I think his life will be much more entrepreneur than being hooked at a coach’s job. It will be a type mentor. This will be a great role for him. He could be a main coach at the IPL. Some people could have for him,” he reflected.
