Randy Moss confirmed that he had been diagnosed with cancer after his son had previously denied reports.
“You all know I’ve told you over the last few weeks about me battling something internally,” Moss, 47, said in a Friday, December 13, Instagram Live video. “And the boy is a cancer survivor.”
Moss shared last month that he had a stent placed in his liver on Thanksgiving because the waste was pouring into his urine.
“I had cancer, they found it in the bile duct between the pancreas and the liver,” he explained. “The cancer was sitting outside the bile duct.”
Moss underwent a “six-hour operation” which included a Whipple procedure – surgery that removes the head of the pancreas, part of the small intestine, the gallbladder and the bile duct, one at a time Mayo Clinic. The retired NFL player shared that he was “in the hospital for six days” and was just released from the hospital on Friday.
An ESPN commentator, who is currently on a absence in the midst of his health battle, he plans to move forward with chemotherapy and radiation but is feeling “good” for now. Moss explained that he was not going to answer any follow-up questions about his condition but wanted to get on social media so his fans could see him as he recovered. Moss shared that he hopes to have a speedy recovery and hopes to return to work soon.
“As soon as I’m healthy enough to go back out with the boys, I’ll be on set. … Hopefully I can be with you soon,” Moss said. “My goal is to get back on TV with my team.”
Moss also expressed his gratitude for the well-wishes sent when he revealed this earlier fight an undisclosed health scare.
“All the prayers, the good wishes, I really felt it, my family felt it,” he said.
As well as spreading cancer awareness and encouraging everyone to complete their annual screenings, Moss is also raising money for cancer research through its new Team Moss merchandise.
The news of Moss’s cancer diagnosis comes days after his son Thaddeus vehemently denied rumours that his father was battling cancer. It all started when a former NFL star Larry Fitzgeraldfather, Larry Fitzgerald Sr., posted via X on Tuesday, December 10, that Moss was “suffering from liver cancer” and sent him well wishes.
“Let’s show the power of prayer and get Moss through this 🙏🙏🙏,” Larry Sr. wrote. “I love you Randy.”
Thaddeus fired back in a post that has since been deleted, writing, “This is disgusting. You have no right to try to make private matters public in order to engage. I don’t believe my father is talking to you, so check your original sources.”
