Captain Royal Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Rajat Patidar, recently revealed his disappointment not to be chosen at the IPL 2022 mega auction. Batsman, 31, shared that he was told that the Royal Challengers Bengaluru would select him during the auction, which gave him hope.
Rajat Patidar joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 2022 IPL season as a replacement for Luvnith Sisodia’s wounded. The Middle Order B headal played a key role for the team, including an unbeaten game of 112 games in the victory against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the eliminator clash.
Rajat Patidar shared the emotional journey he experienced after undone during the IPL 2022 mega auction. Speaking at RCB podcast, he revealed that RCB had assured him that he would be chosen.

“I had received a message (ahead of the mega auction for IPL 2022) that you are ready … we will choose you. I had a little hope that I had another opportunity (to play RCB). But they did not choose the mega auction. I was a little sad,” he said in the RCB podcast.
Patidation lost the 2023 IPL season due to a Achilles heel injury. Scored 395 runs between 15 games, playing a key role in Bengaluru’s trip to Playoffs during IPL 2024. The batter was named Captain RCB for the 2025 season.
Rajat Patidar shared that he received a second chance when RCB called him as a replacement for injuries for Luvnith Sisodia. However, skateboard admitted that he was not excited to join the template as a backup.
“ I started playing at my local games in Indore (after not being chosen at the auction). Then I received a call that “ we are choosing to you as a replacement of Luvnith Sisodia, ” which was injured. To say -you frankly, I did not want to come as a replacement because I knew I would not have the opportunity to play -I always feel that I do not want to be there (in Dugout).
“I was not angry. It was as if I was not chosen (during the auction), I will not get it (I’m going to play). I was angry for a while, but then it was normal,” he recalled.
Patidar said that Virat Kohli handed him the Royal Challengers Bengaluru captaincy was a really special experience. He acknowledged to feel overwhelmed and sure of how to react, but Kohli’s tranquilizing words helped relieve the nerves.
“When I was giving me, I was a bit worried about how to take it. I was completely blank … Then he said a couple of words like,” You deserve it, you won it. “So I felt a little good … I think it was a special moment.”
Patidar has scored 239 runs in 11 games with an average of 23.90 and a strike rate of 140.58, including two fifty years. The RCB will return to the action with a game against Kolkata Knight Riders at Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, May 17th.
They are just a victory to seal a playoff site, after having won eight games in 11 games. With three remaining games, the team also aims to end two first places. Skateboard must recover the shape and drive the side with the bat.
