Mother a Maryland woman killed in a brutal hit-and-run attack — allegedly at the hands of an illegal immigrant whose other suspected crimes took place on several continents and in several states — will attend President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday after she said the tragedy led to an unlikely friendship the commander-in-chief returned.
“The last year and a half has been a surreal experience. Losing my daughter in such a horrible and unexpected way, the anticipation and fear of ‘if’ a suspect would ever be caught, the international attention that Rachel’s case brought, culminating in the congressional hearings and friendship with President Trump,” Patti Morin told Fox News Digital.
Her 37-year-old daughter, Rachel Morin, went missing in August 2023 after failing to return from her daily run. Rachel, a mother of five herself, was later found with horrific injuries, stuffed into a culvert near the trailhead.

It took an interstate law enforcement effort to locate and apprehend the suspect, 23-year-old Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez escape limit accused of a series of violent crimes against women.
He was wanted for the murder of another woman in his native El Salvador and accused of burglary California house and raped a woman and her nine-year-old daughter there.
“I could never have imagined that life would take such a turn. And now with a new Trump administration on the horizon with renewed hope for safety and security for our families and nation…who would have thought that Rachel’s story, her life, would help change our country, bring us back to foundational truths and common sense, waiting looking forward to what the next four years hold,” Morin said.

She has been to the Capitol several times over the past year, testifying before Congress and calling for an end to migrant crime.
Earlier this month, some of those efforts paid off with the passage of the Laken Riley Act, named after another young woman whose suspected killer was an illegal immigrant. As Rachel Morin, Nursing student from Georgia Riley while jogging, he was attacked by a stranger.

“Amending federal law, as stated in the Laken Riley Act, it provides tougher provisions for apprehending criminals illegal immigrants and provides injunctive relief for states and citizens affected by the Biden-Harris open border debacle,” Morin said. “I am thrilled that Congress is finally taking action to protect American families and provide safer communities.”

“It was a slap in the face to American citizens who lost loved ones when 159 Democrats chose to protect criminal illegal immigrants instead of the American citizens they were elected to protect. Shameful!” she added.
