President Donald Trump said he has a Tiktok buyer, a video exchange app that was banned in the US amid claims that it caused a risk of national security.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said he has a “very wealthy people” group wanting to buy a platform. “I’ll tell you about two weeks,” he teased.
The sale will need approval by the Chinese government, but Trump said Fox that he believes that President Xi Jinping will probably do it. “
This month, Trump has been stuck for the third time by the law, which provides for the sale of Tiktok.
The latest expansion requires that the bait on the parent company reached the platform selling transaction by September 17.
BBC contacted Tiktok for comments.
The previous Tiktok buyer’s preliminary transaction collapsed in April when the White House collided with China over Trump tariffs.
It is unclear when the current buyer Trump says he lined up, it’s the same as the one who waited in the wings three months ago.
Last April, the US Congress passed a tactak law, and the legislators referred to the fear that the app or its maternal company could transfer data from the US Government to the Chinese ticket denied.
Trump criticized the application during his first term, but came to this factor in his 2024 election victory and now supports its further use in the US.
The law was supposed to come into force on January 19, but Trump repeatedly postponed his execution at the expense of the executive actions that caused criticism for the abolition of Congress’ legislators.
Tiktku challenged the constitutionality of the law, but lost his appeal to the US Supreme Court.
