Pope to meet with Zelensky Ukraine after the inaugural Mass

Pope Leo XIV should meet with the President of Ukrainian Volodimir Zelensky, the Vatican said after his inaugural Mass.

The new Catholic leader emphasized his concern about the war in Ukraine in his prayer at the end of the service, saying that “tortured Ukraine is waiting for negotiations on a fair and lasting world to finally happen.”

The Pope talked to the crowd of thousands in St. Peter’s Square to prevent the marginalization of the poor and the autocracy.

Zelensky, US Vice President JD Vance and US Secretary of State Mark Rubio, were among the dignitaries.

The pontiff was noticed as his hands with Zelensky, as well as with other dignitaries.

He used his mass to criticize “hatred, violence, prejudice, fear of difference and economic paradigm that exploits earthly resources and marginalizes the poorest.”

He also said he would seek to manage, “without being tempted to become a truck.”

He said he was “very proud” when he saw the first Pope from the United States. “It was a surprise. It would be a wonderful Pope. I’m not a Catholic, but I grew up Catholic, but it just inspires no matter what the Christian’s denomination you are.”

Also in the crowd was Pius, from Chile, a professor of philosophy at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome. She said the BBC that she feels that there was a “new hope” in the church.

Pius said that among the first words of the Pope, when he was elected, he was “let peace with you”, the words of Jesus. And then he said, “Don’t be afraid.”

“He knows what the world and the Church needs. The Church, which preaches hope by preaching peace. I think many people are waiting for it,” she said.

The official inauguration of the Pope followed the mass, with pouring clothing – a white woolen strip – placed on the pope’s shoulders and fixed in place by three pins to present the nails on the cross.
