The Vatican put Spanish architect Antoni Gaudi on the path to holy studies in recognition of his “heroic virtues”.
Gaudi – named by some “God’s architects” – is a designer of one of the most famous religious monuments of Spain and tourist attractions, unfinished Basilica Sagrada in Barcelona.
On Monday, the Vatican made a statement saying that Pope Francis allowed a decree announced by an architect born in Catalonia.
This is an early step on the way to the candidate for the saint who was officially canonized by the Catholic Church.
This is the last development of the decades of the company, which was Gaudi, which was a pious Catholic, recognized by the saint.
Archbishop Barcelona, Cardinal Juan Jose Omela, called the news “joy”.
“This is not only his architectural work, but also something more important,” he said, AFP reports.
The cardinal continued: “He tells you … Against the background of life’s difficulties against the background of work, against the background of pain, against the background of suffering, it is destined to be holy.”
The usual official process in order for someone to be declared the saint will include beatification, one step that lacks the full shrine.
It is a category allotted for martyrs, those who were considered to live the life of heroic values and candidates who claim that it has a holy reputation.
In the case of Gaudi, who died in 1926 after a tram was hit while walking to church, the Vatican will probably require evidence of a miracle that can be attributed to him after his death to continue the bionification.
Gaudi was born in 1852, and many of his most famous works continue to attract visitors to Barcelona, where his heritage is significant.
Basilica Sagrada Familia has been built since 1883 and remains unfinished.
It was posted on the UNESCO World Heritage List, as well as some other works by Gaudi, and was consecrated by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010.
